     Joseph Plotnik was born circa 1868 at Latvia. He was the son of Moses Plotnik and Chane Razer Plotnik. He married Fanny Maleson, daughter of Shlome Maleson and Rachel Gamse, in 1897 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died in 1956.

He appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 at 966 N. 2nd Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Joseph STATLING, age 30; painter; immigrated 1888. He appeared on the census of 21 April 1910 at 829 N. Marshall Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Joseph STERLING, age 40, painter. He appeared on the census of 2 January 1920 at 823 N. Marshall Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Joseph STERLING, age 51, painter at U.S. Navy Yard; born Riga; father's birthplace Boltsk [Bauska]. He appeared on the census of 25 April 1930 at 5912 Christian Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Joseph STERLING, age 63; painter; born Riga. He appeared on the census of 10 April 1940 at 260 Connecticut Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey, as Joseph STERLING, age 71.
