     Yosel Schmouschkovitsch was born on 27 December 1884 at Minsk, Minsk, Minsk. He was the son of Jacob Schmouschkovitsch and Rachel Lande. He died on 16 July 1968 at 23 N. 31st Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, at age 83; as Samuel LANDE; born 23 Dec 1883; cause of death lymphoma; cremated; informant Herbert MOSKOWITZ; father's name Jacob MOSKOWITZ; mother's name Rachel LANDE.
     He immigrated on 29 May 1907 to Ellis Island, New York, aboard SS Statendam, from Rotterdam, as Yosel SCHMOUSCHKOVITSCH, age 22, tailor; last residence Misz, en route to cousin Israel COHEN, 220 Clinton Street, NY; traveling with Rachle HILMOVSKA (Rose PROSCHANSKY.) He appeared on the census of 3 May 1930 at 811 N. 4th Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, as Sam LANDE, age 44; dry goods salesman; living with family of cousin Joseph MOSKOWITZ. On 3 April 1940 while living at 818 N. 3rd Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, Yosel Schmouschkovitsch filed Declaration of Intention as Samuel LANDE, born 27 Sep 1884 in Minsk; furniture dealer; immigrated as Yosel SCHMOUSCHKOVITSCH. He appeared on the census of 5 April 1940 at 621 N. 4th Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, as Samuel LANDE, age 55; proprietor, retail furniture store. On 19 April 1943 while living at 621 N. 4th Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, Yosel Schmouschkovitsch filed Petition for Naturalization with US District Court, Wilmington; as Yosel SCHMOUSCHKOVITSCH (Samuel LANDE), requesting name change to Samuel LANDE; witnesses Louis SCHWARTZ, 713 N. 4th Street, furniture dealer and Abraham DLUGIN, 401 N. 5th Street, merchant.
