     Hersch Burakes was born circa 1884 at Brok, Ostrow, Lomza. He was the son of Calka Burakes and Ester Miska Berlinerblau. He married Esther Binstock, daughter of Isaac Binstock and Rebecca Director, on 20 November 1911 at Toledo, Ohio; as Harry BROKES, 28; wood turner, 903 Utica Street; father Zalka BROKES, mother Esther BERLINER BLOW; and Esther BINSTOCK, 21, 627 George Street; born Wolin 1 Oct 1890; father Isaac BINSTOCK, mother Rebecca DIRECTOR.
     He immigrated on 7 April 1905 to Ellis Island, New York, as Hirsch BURGER, 20, laborer; aboard Silvia from Hamburg; last residence Bariczow; en route to brother-in-law Louis HUTNER, 383 Main Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts. He emigrated on 16 May 1905 from Hamburg, Germany, as Hersch BUREIKES, 21; born Brok; aboard Silvia to New York; wood turner. He appeared on the census of 15 January 1920 at 342 Market Street SW, Grand Rapids, Michigan, as Harry BORAKES, 38, wood-turner. On 26 November 1920 while living at 343 Wealthy Street SW, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hersch Burakes filed Declaration of Intention with Grand Rapids Superior Court, as Harry BORAKES, wood turner; born 27 Nov 1882 at Brok; arrived NY 5 Sep 1906. On 3 June 1927 while living at 1756 W. 13th Street, Chicago, Illinois, Hersch Burakes filed Petition for Naturalization with Northern District of Illinois as Harry BORAKES, wood turner; born Brok; wife Esther died 26 Apr 1922; witnesses Robert PIZANTE, barber, 1748 W. Roosevelt Road; and Joe NOWIK, machine hand, 1249 Washburn Avenue. As of 20 October 1927, Hersch Burakes was also known as Harry Brooks named changed with naturalization. He was naturalized on 20 October 1927; swore Oath of Allegiance and changed name to Harry BROOKS; certificate 2507989. He appeared on the census of 14 April 1930 at 1314 Wood Street, Chicago, Illinois, as Harry BROOKS, 49; peddler, junk shop.
