Abraham Gelman

     Abraham Gelman was born in May 1914 at Mir, Novogrudok, Minsk; per 1931 Petition for Citizenship of mother Ethel. He was the son of David Gelman and Ethel Josem. He was born on 28 May 1915; per SSDI. He was born circa 1916 at Gorodishche, Novogrudok, Minsk; per immigration manifest. He married Selma Bass, daughter of Isadore Bass and Gertrude Gelman Bass, on 11 June 1946 at Bronx, New York; as Abraham GELMAN and Selma BASS. He died on 16 April 2004 at Bronx, New York, at age 89; interred at Mount Hebron Cemetery as Abraham GELMAN.
     As of 2 June 1924, Abraham Gelman was also known as Abram Gilmowska. He immigrated on 2 June 1924 to Ellis Island, New York, as Abram GILMOWSKA; aboard The Belgenland, from London; closest kin uncle Josem JECHIEL, Horodoyszcz, Poland; en route to father Dawid GELMAN, Charleston, Mississippi. He appeared on the census of 3 April 1930 at West Main Street, Charleston, Mississippi. On 14 June 1938 while living at 452 Mosby Street, Memphis, Tennessee, Abraham Gelman filed Declaration of Intention as Abraham GELMAN (Abram GILMOWSKA), age 23. He on 16 October 1940 while living at 121 West Main, Charleston, Mississippi, registered for Selective Service as Abraham GELMAN, born 28 May 1915; dental student at Washington University, St. Louis; closest kin father David GELMAN. He began military service on 7 April 1943. He ended military service on 10 April 1946.
