Alter Wengrowitz

     Alter Wengrowitz was born on 15 March 1886 at Wysokie Mazowieckie, Mazowieckie, Lomza. He was the son of Schepsal Wengrowicz and Dwora Monka. He married Rochla-Elka Surawicz, daughter of Icko-Fiszel Surawicz and Brajndla Jaskolka, in 1906 at Wysokie Mazowieckie, Mazowieckie, Lomza; per JRI-P.
     He immigrated on 10 December 1906 to Ellis Island, New York, aboard Kaiserin Augusta Victoria. On 17 June 1920 while living at 170 Henry Street, New York, New York, Alter Wengrowitz submitted Declaration of Intention 88080, SDNY, as Ike WENGROWITZ. On 20 November 1923 while living at 170 Henry Street, New York, New York, Alter Wengrowitz submitted Petition for Naturalization with SDNY as Ike WENGROWITZ; witnesses Harry SEROWITZ and Abraham SORAWITCH, 51 Forsyth Street; denied for lack of English and intelligence. On 13 April 1926 while living at 170 Henry Street, New York, New York, Alter Wengrowitz submitted Petition for Naturalization as Ike WENGROWITZ; witnesses Harry SEROWITZ, 964 E 178th; Abraham SORAWITCH, 51 Forsyth Street. He appeared on the census of 5 April 1930 at 1789 Pitkin Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, as Icke WEINGROWITZ. He appeared on the census of 2 April 1940 at 4035 Saratoga Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, as Ike WEINGROWITZ, grocery proprietor.
