Simon Epstein

     Simon Epstein was born in May 1864. He was the son of Nathan Epstein and Rose Cohn. He married Bertha Harkavy, daughter of unknown Harkavy, circa 1881; per 1900 Census - married 19 years. He died on 8 February 1913 at 301 Osborn, Brooklyn, New York, at age 48; as Simon EPSTEIN, 52; salesman; father Nathan EPSTEIN and mother Rose COHN; buried in Mt. Zion cemetery. His estate was probated on 1 July 1915 at Kings County Surrogate's Court, Brooklyn, New York; Bessie EPSTEIN, then residing at 5314 13th Avenue, Brooklyn, listed children Ida PICKER, 917 Elizabeth Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ; Benjamin EPSTEIN and Florence EPSTEIN, residing with Bessie, and Harry EPSTEIN, address unknown. By her petition, Simon died without leaving a will.
     He emigrated on 27 May 1883 from Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany, possibly as Sandel EPSTEIN, age 19, laborer; last residence Balbirischok [Balbieriskas], aboard Rhaetia to New York. He immigrated on 11 June 1883 to New York, New York, possibly as Sandel EPSTEIN, age 19, married. He lived in 1889 at 7 Cary Lane, Portland, Maine, as Simon EPSTEIN, peddler, in Portland City Directory. He was naturalized on 20 June 1889 at U.S. Circuit Court, Portland, Maine; as Simon EPSTEIN; born 5 Nov 1866; arrived New York 28 June 1883; witnesses John E. LARKIN, John GRIFFIN, and sister Mary ALPEROWITCH. He lived between 1890 and 1893 at 114 Monument, Portland, Maine, as Simon EPSTEIN, peddler, in Portland City Directory. He lived in 1893 at 198 Lincoln, Lewiston, Maine, as Simon EPSTEIN, grocer, in Lewiston City Directory. He appeared on the census of 12 June 1900 at 450 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, New York, as Simon EPSTEIN, age 36; grocer; immigrated 1885. He appeared on the census of 14 April 1910 at 309 Osborne Street, Brooklyn, New York, as Simon EPSTEIN, age 50; butter & eggs laborer.
