Samuel Harkavy

     Samuel Harkavy was born in March 1864 at Minsk; per widow Lena's 1942 Declaration of Intention at SDNY. He was born circa 1866; aged 75 at death in 1941; ages in censuses range from 1866 to 1870. He was the son of Leizer Garkavy and Miriam Seltzer. He was born circa 1870 at Russia. He married Lena Seltzer on 15 August 1889 at Minsk, Minsk, Minsk; per Lena's 1942 Declaration of Intention. He died on 3 September 1941 at 1645 Montgomery Avenue, Bronx, New York; as Samuel HARKAVY, 75, husband of Lillian HARKAVY; in US 37 years; father Louis HARKAVY, mother Miriam SELTZER; informant daughter Esther HARKAVY, 675 Walton Avenue; buried Riverside Cemetery; Bronx death certificate 8184.
     Samuel Harkavy was also known as Sam Harkavy. He on 24 November 1899 at Vandziogala, Kaunas, Kaunas, in Rabbi Elector's List, as Shmuel GORKOV, 35; son of Leyzer. He immigrated on 22 September 1903 to Ellis Island, New York, as Samuel HARKOWER, 31, married; aboard Bremen from Bremen; last residence Wensegol [Vandziogala]; en route to brother-in-law L[ouis] MINSKY, 4800 Malket Street; traveling with Chaim SELZER and Chaya [GOLDBERG]. He appeared on the census of 1 June 1905 at 127 Madison Street, New York, New York, as Sam HARKAVA, 36; clothing salesman; 2 years in U.S; alien. He appeared on the census of 27 April 1910 at 104-106 Essex Street, New York, New York, as Sam HARKAVY, 40; salesman, wholesale dry goods; immigrated 1903.
