He was the son of Leib Gilmowski and Sarah Leah Hirshovitz. He married Annie Kessel, daughter of Dov Ber Kessel and Reise Kupianski, on 3 March 1914 at Blackshear, Georgia. He died on 21 February 1934 at Waycross, Georgia, at age 48; buried the following day. He was buried on 22 February 1934 at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia.

On 7 October 1912 while living at Blackshear, Georgia, Chaim Gilmowsky filed Petition for Naturalization as Alex GILMORE, merchant; born 18 Oct 1885 in Gorodisht; immigrated to NY aboard Amsterdam on 20 Dec 1889.
